08/14/2013 – Accidental Death Investigation

Sheriff Smith reported that on 08/13/2013 at about 0940 hours deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to the 500 block of Riggins Ferry Road, located in Woodbury Georgia, in reference to an injured subject. Upon arrival to the scene deputies learned that he victim was bush hogging in a field on his property and  that, according to the neighbor’s statement, the victim was knocked off a tractor by a tree limb which resulted in him being partially run over by the farm equipment. The victim, although seriously injured, was able to get back on his tractor and drive to the neighbor’s residence to seek help.

Sheriff Smith stated that an emergency air evacuation unit was summoned by EMS to transport the victim to a hospital for medical treatment. While in transport in the air-vac unit the victim passed away. Sheriff Smith stated that County Coroner Johnny Worley was contacted related to this matter. It is apparent at this point in the investigation that this was an accidental death, stated Sheriff Smith. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Sheriff Smith stated that this is a tragic accident that resulted in the unfortunate death of one of our citizens. This makes two such incidents that have occurred to our community in less that a week. Although such incidents maybe simply out of our control, Sheriff Smith asks that all of our citizens take precautionary measures when available and stay safe. Smith Stated that his thoughts and prayers go out to the families.
