7/2/2013 – Over $800,000 in Marijuana Plants Seized

Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that on Thursday June 27, 2013 with air support and boots on the ground several law enforcement agencies were able to eradicate over 400 marijuana plants that were been grown in our county. Sheriff Smith stated that the Governor’s Task Force Drug Suppression Unit with the aid of three helicopters and ground support units, along with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Narcotics task Force, Georgia DNR Rangers and the Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit located and recovered 429 Marijuana Plants in the wood line on Baughan Road, near Gay, Georgia. The estimated  value of each plant is approximately $2000.00 which would equate to an estimated street value of $848,000.00.
Sheriff Smith stated that the Governor’s Task Force is comprised of six state and four federal agencies that searches to locate and prosecute marijuana cultivation. Sheriff Smith stated that he is grateful that all these units working together collectively were able to stop this cultivation of marijuana before it was able to be distributed in our community.
Sheriff Smith stated that his investigator’s along with the task force are tracking leads associated with this illegal grow.
