7/1/2013 – Burglary Suspect Arrested

Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that on 06/20/2013 around 1730 hrs. a homeowner returned to his place of residence in the 200 block of Shirey Road, Manchester, Meriwether County, Georgia. At that time the homeowner encountered two subjects attempting to load his zero turn mower onto a trailer. This confrontation by the homeowner with these two perpetrators thwarted the theft of the mower. The two suspects fled the area in a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, tan in color. The homeowner contacted the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and a lookout was placed on the vehicle with units responding to the area. During this time the homeowner also discovered that his weed trimmer had been taken within the confines of his attached garaged that was part of the residence.

Sheriff Smith stated that within a short time of the reported incident the suspect vehicle along with the two suspects were stopped by the Manchester Police Department. Smith stated that evidence found in the vehicle along with a positive identification by the victim confirmed that these two individuals were our perpetrators. The stolen weed trimmer was recovered from the vehicle.

Arrested were Christopher J. McBride, B/M, 37 yoa., add. 1441 Boxwood Blvd., Columbus, Ga. , and a 16 yoa. B/M juvenile also of Columbus, Ga. Both subject’s were transported to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the offense of burglary.

Sheriff Smith stated that he appreciated the vigilance of the homeowner who had the fortitude in such a critical situation to provide a very detailed descriptive of the perpetrators and the suspect vehicle, this made our job of identifying them much easier. Sheriff Smith also wanted to thank the Manchester Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of the perpetrators and their investigative presence.
