6/10/2013 – Burglary Suspect Arrested

On June 6,2013 Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office arrested Eugene Adam Hembree, 31, of 623 Coleman Creek Circle, Luthersville and a sixteen year juvenile charging them with numerous thefts and burglaries.

“We’ve had a rash of thefts and burglaries reported to us since the latter part of February in the Lone Oak, Primrose and Rocky Mount communities,” Sheriff Chuck Smith said!

Items ranging from hand tools, chainsaws, ATVs, farm tractors, lawn & garden tractors, a skid steer loader, stump grinder, pressure washers, landscaping equipment, industrial lawn mowers, and trailers used to haul these items had been reported stolen to Meriwether, Troup and Coweta County authorities in the last four months.

“We developed a five man Crime Suppression Unit and distributed information we received from vigilant citizens in these hard hit communities to our patrol division,” Smith added.

Deputy Shawn Womack observed a Toyota pick-up truck fitting a description previously provided as a suspect vehicle in one of these thefts travelling south on Roosevelt Highway from Luthersville last Tuesday. The truck was being driven by the sixteen year juvenile and he was in possession of a chainsaw. It was later determined that the chainsaw that the juvenile was in possession of was reported stolen to the Coweta County Sheriffs Office. Smith stated that our investigation revealed that Hembree was in possession of a stolen Grasshopper Industrial Mower being towed on a stolen trailer behind a white Ford F250.


“We obtained an enormous amount of information during this traffic stop and we proceeded with a search warrant at Hembree’s home, located on Coleman Creek Circle. “During the search we located numerous items of stolen property along with other evidence from our burglary and theft scenes” Sheriff Smith commented.

information obtained from the search warrant execution along with other investigative information, led our deputies to other counties where additional stolen property was located. We recovered stolen property that the suspect had hidden in the Northwest portion of Troup County, the Northeast portion of Heard County and South Fulton County. Sheriff Smith stated that our personnel were able to apprehend Hembree while he was still in possession of the stolen Grasshopper, Trailer and the chainsaw stolen out of Coweta County.

Deputies and Investigators with the Meriwether, Coweta, Heard County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department along with Fulton County Police Detectives assisted with the case investigation and recovery of the stolen property.

Sheriff Smith stated that at the present time his personnel have recovered over $150,000.00 worth of stolen property. He stated that we are still tracking down leads regarding additional stolen property. Smith stated that Hembree along with the juvenile offender have been charged with several counts of burglary, felony theft by taking, felony theft by receiving stolen property. Additional charges are pending against Hembree in Meriwether County and other surrounding counties.

Sheriff Smith advised that Eugene Adams Hembree is currently being held in the Meriwether County Detention Facility under no bond. Smith is encouraging anyone with additional information to call our investigators at (706) 672-4489.
