4/22/2013 – Burglary Suspects Arrested

Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that on 04/19/2013 around 1100 hrs. Sergeant Shannon Griffin responded to the 5100 block of Gay Road in regard to a 911 call from a concerned citizen in reference to some suspicious juveniles in the area. Sergeant Griffin responded to the call for service; however it was later revealed that the juveniles in question had hitched a ride to Woodbury, Ga. A second call was received from an anonymous source advising that the juveniles in question were at the Citco Gas Station in Woodbury, Ga. Sergeant Griffin responded to said location and located two juvenile subjects ages 14 and 16 years of age. Upon further investigation it was discovered that these two juveniles were runaways from the House of Jobe, located in LaGrange, Ga. Reportedly, these youth had been on the lamb for approximately 4 days. Sheriff Smith stated that further investigation by our Patrol and C.I.D. divisions revealed that these juveniles had been involved in 3 burglaries while they were in our jurisdiction. The burglaries occurred at the Piggly Wiggly in C/L of Greenville, the 700 block of Gay Road and the 5100 block of Gay Road. Sheriff Smith stated that the two burglaries on Gay Road were discovered by our patrol units, one prior to and one after the apprehension of the juveniles. The burglary location in the 5100 block of Gay Road was damaged extensively. Both juvenile offenders were charged with 3 counts of Burglary, along with the offenses of Criminal Damage to Property 2nd degree, Discharging a firearm on the property of another, Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a crime, Reckless Conduct, Possession of a handgun by persons under 18 and Theft by Taking. The juveniles were transported to and are being held at the West Georgia Regional Youth Detention Facility. Sheriff Smith is thankful to the concerned citizens who had the fortitude to recognize that something was not right involving these two juveniles and called 911. With their help we were able to bring these incidents to a swift conclusion that resulted in the apprehension of these two offenders.
