Mission Statement :To provide an educational program to Georgia’s Youth, which provides guidance and the skills, ability and knowledge to be safe, healthy and happy, in preparation for a successful life.
C.H.A.M.P.S is an educational course designed by the Georgia Sheriff’s Association and implemented in our state in 2005. This course is designed to offer a maximum of 21 different lesson plans to fifth grade students in Meriwether County Schools. These lesson plans are taught by Deputy Jody Holland and are intended to give various types of instruction in order to keep your child safe from drugs and violence.
Sheriff’s Youth Academy is also offered to recent C.H.A.M.P.S fifth grade graduates. This summer camp is open to select fifth grade students who have exemplified an added interest in law enforcement or related field or who may just need an extra hand in an otherwise troubled homelife. The students participate in a week long variety of activities and field trips that is funded completely by seized drug funds and donations. In the summer camp program C.H.A.M.P.S. instructor Deputy Holland provides daily instructional lesson plans and has even had nearly one hundred volunteers from all other civil service organizations donate their time to the children as well.
