Multiple Arrest for Violations of Georgia Control Substance Act, Aggravated Assault, Battery, Simple Battery, Wanted Fugitive (Escapee) out of Troup County Georgia, Possession of Firearms by Convicted Felon, Possession of Firearms during Commission of Crimes, And Tampering with Evidence.

Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that his personnel and supporting agencies had made numerous recent arrest for the above listed offenses.

“On November 17, 2015 our patrol deputies responded to 50 River Road, Warm Springs, Georgia in regard to assisting Harris County Sheriff’s Investigators concerning a burglary investigation in that jurisdiction. Harris County Investigators went to the location in an attempt to make contact with the resident concerning a burglary investigation on Kings Gap Road, Harris County, Georgia. The resident and the investigators arrived at the location almost simultaneously. At which time the subject identified as Matthew Wade Grantham W/M, exited his vehicle. Upon recognizing the persons who had pulled in were law enforcement Grantham threw an item back inside the vehicle. The investigators observed that is was marijuana that Grantham attempted to conceal. Our personnel arrived on scene and the investigation revealed that stolen property from Harris County and possibly additional drugs were located within the residence. Meriwether County Investigators obtained a search warrant and it was executed on the residence. Harris County was able to locate some of their stolen property that came from the Kings Gap location and we recovered illegal drugs from within the residence. Matthew Wade Grantham W/M, 38 years of age of 50 River Road, Warm Springs, Georgia was charged with Possession of Marijuana less than an ounce, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Xanax Pills, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Methamphetamine. A female located at the residence identified as Stacha Odette Chambers W/F, 44 years of age with a listed address of 210 Boulevard Street, LaGrange, Georgia was charged with V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Methamphetamine and V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Oxycodone. Both were transported to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office Jail. Chambers has a hold on her out of Troup County, Ga.

On November 21, 2015 our patrol deputies responded to 87 Waddell Lane, Woodbury, Georgia in regard to a call for service in reference to an assault. Upon further investigation it was determined that Clint Olin Fowler had assaulted several subjects at the residence and had fled the location in a vehicle prior to the deputies’ arrival. The investigation indicated that Fowler had gotten into a physical altercation with a female victim at the location and did shove her into a glass door. A male subject tried to intervene at which time Fowler went and retrieved a shotgun from his vehicle. Fowler was reported to have pointed the shotgun at the male and then chased him around the yard area, before finally placing the weapon back inside his vehicle. Fowler then began to physically fight with the male subject striking him in the face with a closed fist. Warrants were obtained for Fowler for the offenses of Aggravated Assault, Battery and Simple Battery under the Family Violence Act. On November 22, 2015 one of our patrol supervisor’s located Clint Fowler in the 2700 Block of Owens Road, and took him into custody without incident. Clint Olin Fowler W/M, 43 years of age, of 2737 Owens Road, Woodbury, Ga was transported to the Meriwether County Jail and charged with the offenses listed.

On November 22, 2015 our patrol deputies responded to 2675 Luthersville Road, Luthersville, Georgia in reference to a reported domestic dispute. Upon arrival on the scene the deputies received information that the individual that had caused the dispute was a wanted escapee out of Troup County, Georgia. Information was obtained that Jeremy Steven Bartlett was wanted for warrant number WC-15-0562, felony escape out of Troup County in which Bartlett was in the Troup County Work Release Program. Bartlett had been on the run since on or around June 9, 2015 after failing to return to the facility. Bartlett had fled into a wooded area prior to our deputies arriving on the scene. At that time we set up a perimeter and called in our tracking K-9 in an attempt to establish a track on Bartlett. Prior to our K-9 arriving on the scene one of our patrol deputies received information that Bartlett had possibly exited the wooded area and was headed back in the direction of the residence. They were able to apprehend Bartlett from underneath a porch at the rear of the location. Jeremy Steven Bartlett W/M, 28 years of age was arrested for the outstanding felony escape warrant and was turned over to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Deputies at our county line.

On November 25, 2015 we conducted a multi-agency operation in regard to a subject on probation/parole under the supervision of the Department of Community Supervision reportedly possessing illegal drugs, along with additional information that he was possibly making some type of explosive device. This information was received by DCS personnel. We put together a joint operation in which all necessary agencies were involved and too ensure that the necessary precautions were taken. The target of this operation was identified as Jessie Anders, of 788 Primrose Road. Anders was required to report to DCS on the date of the operation related to this search execution plan for the residence. At the time of the execution of the search of the residence the reported girlfriend of Anders, identified as Lisa Newell, entered the residence and attempted to hide a zip lock bag of marijuana. A subsequent search of the residence led to the discovery of 31.5 grams of marijuana, 2.5 grams of methamphetamine, 5 firearms, 2 containers of smokeless powder, 1 container of rifle powder, 1 box of pistol primers, and numerous drug paraphernalia. Jessie Lee Anders W/M, 60 years of age, of 788 Primrose Road, was charged with Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon 5 counts, Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to Distribute, and Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute. Anders bonds total in excess of $42,000.00. Lisa Darlene Newell W/F, 55 years of age, of the same address was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute, and Tampering with Evidence. Newell bonds total in excess of $20,000.00. Both subjects were transported to the Meriwether County Jail and charged as stated. The following agencies assisted in this collaborative effort of agencies to include the Department of Community Supervision, Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Upson County Multi-jurisdictional Task Force, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to include their Special Operations Bomb Detection Unit.” Sheriff Smith stated.

“I appreciated the effort put forth by my personnel and all supporting agencies in making these case investigations and multiple arrest a success.” Sheriff Smith advised.
