Summer Reading and Demonstration Program at Manchester & Greenville Libraries for our area Youth

Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith, one of our patrol K-9 deputies and members of the Manchester Fire Department participated in summer reading programs at our area libraries.

“On July 13, 2016 around 11:00 am I along with our K9 Deputy Joe Pearson accompanied by our K-9 “Sasha” met with Manchester Fire Department Firemen Danny Stephens and Donny Haralson at the Manchester Library to participate in their summer reading program. This event was scheduled earlier this year by Heather Caldwell who is the children’s services assistant with the Pine Mountain Regional Library System. Heather wanted to continue over the summer months with their reading program like the “Real Men Read” presentation that we along with other community partners participate in the school system throughout the school year. We along with Manchester Fire Personnel were glad to help out. greenville library summer reading program

We took our K-9 “Sasha” for the kids to see along with one of our squad cars for the kids to view. Manchester Fire had one of their tanker trucks there for viewing as well. We read to the youth and they had the opportunity to see equipment and resources that we utilize in the performance of our job task. After we completed the presentation at the Manchester Library K-9 Deputy Joe Pearson, K-9 “Sasha” and I went to the Greenville Library and did the same at around 3:00 pm. We appreciate the opportunity afforded to us and the effort that Heather put forth to make this presentation come together. Anytime that we have the chance to have a positive impact in the lives of our youngsters we are happy to do so. I know that Danny and Donny would reiterate the same in reply.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
