Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that his agency has made several recent arrests for the offense of felony theft by receiving stolen property along with a separate incident in which a search warrant was executed that resulted in an arrest along with the recovery of narcotics and a firearm.
“On July 6, 2016 around 2:00 pm our investigators met with officers from the Trion Police Department, Trion, Ga. in regard to the possibility that stolen property may be located in Meriwether County, Ga. The information that was provided to our investigators was that lawn equipment and a pull trailer valued in excess of $25,000.00 had been taken from the Trion School System, Trion, Ga. Trion PD had made an arrest in the case and information was obtained that the stolen property was possibly brought to our jurisdiction. Items that were being sought were a trailer, weed eaters and a John Deere zero turn mower. Through the course of the investigation our investigators along with Trion PD Officers went to multiple locations throughout Meriwether County and Talbot County, Georgia in the search for the stolen property. The results of this search turned up stolen property to include the stolen trailer and weed eaters that was located in a wooded area off of Judson Bulloch Road and in the 2500 block of JW Dunn Road, Pine Mountain, Ga. the zero turn mower was recovered. Our investigators charged Charles Quinn McDonald, W/M, 31 years of age, of Manchester Hwy, Shiloh, Ga. and James Robert Gunder, W/M, 30 years of age of Richard Smith Road, Warm Springs, Ga. with the offense of Felony Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. Both subjects were transported to the Meriwether County Jail and charged as stated. Gunder is being held on a $50,000.00 bond along with a hold by Chattooga County, Ga. McDonald posted a $50,000.00 bond.
On July 8, 2016 at 09:30 am our narcotics agents, patrol deputies and the narcotics task force executed a search warrant in the 10000 block of Woodbury Hwy, Greenville, Ga. in regard to the sale of narcotics from the residence. During the execution of the search warrant deputies that were providing perimeter security saw a handgun being thrown out of a rear window as entry was being made into the residence. Our K9 “Sasha” located a bag of methamphetamine and marijuana located in the rear of the residence. Our personnel and narcotics agents recovered a Raven 25 cal. handgun, ammunition, numerous digital scales, U.S. Currency and narcotics from the location. There was 24.6 grams of methamphetamine that was recovered along with 16.4 grams of marijuana. We arrested Muandarious Gartae Hall, B/M, 23 years of age of Woodbury Hwy, Greenville, Ga. and he was charged with the offenses of V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony. Hall is being held at the Meriwether County Jail on $27,500.00 bond along with a probation violation hold.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
“I appreciate the work our personnel and narcotics task force did regarding these case investigations. We recovered over $25,000.00 in stolen property which is substantial. Our K9 “Sasha” did a great job in finding the hidden narcotics and performed well for her handler. These case investigations are still on-going.” Sheriff Smith advised.
