Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that his personnel have made several recent arrests for the above listed offenses.
“On January 8, 2016 Meriwether County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling the area of Hwy 100 at its intersection with Jarrell Road when they observed a dark colored vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle identified as a Mercury Milan was clocked on radar at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver who was identified as Khiry Martin, the deputies detected a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Martin admitted to deputies that he had smoked marijuana earlier. Further investigation into this matter revealed that there was 49.3 grams of individual packaged marijuana, along with a digital scale in the passenger side of the vehicle. The passenger side of the vehicle was occupied by a Nicholas Parks. Martin was also found to be in possession a marijuana cigarette in his pants pocket. Khiry Martin, B/M, 25 years of age, add listed as Niles Street, LaGrange, Ga. was charged with Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute and Possession of Marijuana less than an Ounce. Nicholas Parks, B/M, 19 years of age, address listed of Martin Luther King Street, Grenville, Ga. was charged with Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute. Both subjects were transported to the Meriwether County Jail and charged as stated.
Our investigators began conducting an investigation into an alleged child molestation that was reported through an anonymous tip. We got Child Protective Services involved through our protocol based on the information that we received. Through the course of the investigation evidence was obtained by our investigative division linking Eugene Lamar Mitchell, B/M, 34 years of age, of Greenville, Ga. to this incident. On February 3, 2016 Mitchell was arrested at the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and he was charged with the offenses of Child Molestation, Incest, Aggravated Child Molestation, Aggravated Sexual Battery and Statutory Rape. Our investigators through a separate unrelated investigation were able to link Mitchell to a burglary that occurred on January 16, 2016 in the 1900 block of McWilliams Barber Road, Luthersville, Ga. He was charged with the offense of burglary in addition to the above listed charges. Mitchell is being held in the Meriwether County Jail without bond.
On February 5, 2016 the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and the Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at 505 3rd Street, Manchester, Ga. in regard to an investigation into the sale of methamphetamine from this location. The search warrant execution led to the discovery of Methamphetamine, Schedule II Narcotics (Methadone & Hydrocodone), and Marijuana less than an Ounce. This led to the arrest of Chester M. Lawhorn Sr., W/M, 63 years of age and Lisa Finch, W/F, 47 years of age, both residents of Manchester, Ga. Lawhorn and Finch were transported to the Meriwether County Jail and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule II Drugs, Possession of Marijuana less than an Ounce and Pills not Kept in the Original Container. Bond was set at $13,000 each.” Sheriff Chuck Smith stated.
