Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that a second arrest has been made in the mass shooting that occurred on September 27, 2015 around 02:56 am at 1140 Hill Haven Road, Greenville, Ga. The location previously called Club CJ’s with its name recently being listed as the Hill Haven Event Center. As stated in previous releases there were a total of 10 subjects shot in this incident.
“Our investigation into this shooting incident provided us with information and evidence that allowed us to obtain arrest warrants for Tommie Thornton, B/M, 22 years of age. Thornton was arrested on 10/12/2015 at 10-A Habersham Drive, LaGrange, Ga. My Investigator along with LaGrange Police Department Patrol Officers were able to arrest Thornton at that time. Information related to that arrest was previously provided. Prior to our arrest of Thornton our investigators had gained evidence into the identity of a second shooter that was involved in this incident. We continued to track down the leads related to this second shooter and were able to gather enough evidence to obtain arrest warrants for this second suspect. Upon obtaining these warrants for this suspect we had information that he would possibly try to abscond the area. We made contact with the United States Marshal’s Service to assist us in the apprehension of this subject after local attempts at apprehension had met with negative results.” Sheriff Smith stated.
“On October 28, 2015 at 3:00 pm the United States Marshal’s Service arrested Demarcus LaQuan Norman, B/M, 20 years of age at his listed residence of 112 Northwood Drive, LaGrange, Ga. There was a handgun located by the U.S. Marshals in close proximity related to Norman’s arrest. That weapon was obtained for further comparison related to this shooting investigation and will be forwarded to the GBI Crime Lab for that purpose. Norman was picked up by Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies from the Marshal Agents and was transported to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office Jail. Norman was arrested on warrants for 10 counts of Aggravated Assault and 1 count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. Norman is being held without bond in the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office Jail. I appreciate the U.S. Marshal’s helping us in taking this suspect into custody without incident related to this case. These agents do an excellent job in tracking down wanted suspects and we have relied on them in past major case investigations. We still have additional leads that we are following up on and more charges and arrest may be forth coming.” Sheriff Smith advised.
