Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that an arrest has been made in the murder investigation of Kenneth Michael Spice. As previously reported Spice’s body was discovered in a wooded area in the 100 block of Primrose Circle on June 15, 2015.

“During the onset of this investigation our investigators located items at the scene of evidentiary value that later were critical to us being able to make an arrest in this case investigation. We began to track down leads that were developed from interviews that we conducted and electronic media sources.  As a result of following these leads our lead investigator was able to develop a suspect in the case. This gave us enough probable cause to execute a search warrant on the suspect’s place of residence.” Sheriff Smith advised.

“On July 31, 2015 in the early morning hours Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office Investigators’ with the assistance of the Upson Regional Narcotics Task Force, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations executed a search warrant at the residence of Timiquae Marquan Slaton located at 140 Mallard Drive, Newnan, Georgia. During the search we were able to locate additional evidence that tied back to our initial crime scene investigation. Slaton was also found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. This led to Slaton being charged with possession of marijuana by the Sheriff’s Office and a subsequent hold was placed on him for probation violation. The GBI Crime Scene Agents assisted with the recovery and submission of the items recovered during the search warrant execution. The GBI Crime Lab was able to provide us with a positive match on items recovered from the search warrant execution and our initial crime scene. This recovery and positive match along with other circumstantial evidence has ultimately lead us to being able to obtain warrants for Slaton’s arrest in this case investigation. We learned Slaton and Spice had worked together at Yamaha in Newnan, Georgia prior to this case investigation.” Sheriff Chuck Smith stated.

Timiquae Marquan Slaton, B/M, 22 years of age, address 140 Mallard Drive, Newnan, Ga. is currently being held in the Meriwether County Jail without bond for the offenses of Murder, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime and Arson 2nd Degree.

“I’m very pleased with the effort put forth by all agencies involved that led to an arrest in this matter. I am especially proud of the way our investigators handled this investigation from the beginning with their protection, processing and investigating the crime scene and the subsequent case investigation. Our lead investigator did an outstanding job of tracking down the information as it came available and following up to get us to where we are now in this case investigation. We will continue to follow up on any and all additional leads that may develop. Just because an arrest has been made does not mean that we are through with this case. We still have additional evidence that is at the GBI Crime Lab that we are waiting to get the results.” Sheriff Smith advised.
